As part of the BiodivRegio project “Research into concepts for the valorization of food from biodiversity-promoting, regional agriculture”, the first forum took place on 23 October 2024 with representatives from agriculture, nature conservation, processing, trade, food retail and associations. The day was introduced by a keynote speech by Guido Petzold, Head of the Strategy Dialogue on Agriculture at the State Ministry. Some of the demands arising from the strategy dialog will be taken up in the project.
Supplemented by a “good practice” example of an existing value chain, some important core elements became clear: clear agreements are needed and people who want to achieve something new together must come together. Strengthened by this input, the participants went on to the three themed workshops, in which they developed success factors and obstacles for the development of the three value chains in focus:
- Beef from extensive grassland,
- Beef based on biodiversity-promoting maize (biodiv maize),
- maize-bean cultivation for human consumption.
Prof. Dr. Carola Pekrun, project coordinator of BiodivRegio, reports on the forum: “The day was encouraging, provided many suggestions and - after revision and further activities by the project participants and their partners - will lead to paths being taken that can serve to put process quality into value. This should demonstrably promote biodiversity and local agriculture. We are optimistic that this is possible.”
